A Few of Our Favorite Things to Do
There's plenty to do on Galveston Island, but we're usually happiest with good food, the beach and a little exploring! These are a few of our favorite ways to spend the day — plus some island favorites worth checking out while you're here.
🌴 OUR FAVORITE WAYS TO EXPLORE
Walk Out on Galveston Fishing Pier
You don’t have to be fishing to enjoy the pier! Walk out over the Gulf, watch everyone reel in their catches, take in the views and see what’s swimming below. Jimmy’s on the Pier is right there too if you want to grab a bite or a drink while you’re out. The pier currently offers visitor/pier passes in addition to fishing.
One of our favorite ways to spend a few hours in Galveston. Walk the historic streets, pop into the shops and boutiques, grab a drink or something sweet and just explore. No real itinerary required! The Strand is Galveston’s main historic downtown shopping district, with shops, restaurants and attractions mixed among the old buildings.
🐬 ON THE WATER
An easy way to get out on the water and see Galveston from a different perspective. Cruise through the harbor while keeping an eye out for the dolphins that live around the island. Great for couples, families or groups.
One of the best free things to do on the island! Park on the Galveston side, walk onto the ferry and enjoy the ride across the bay. Keep an eye out for dolphins along the way!
🎡 IF YOU WANT MORE TO DO
Our pick for a rainy day or when you need a break from the Texas heat. Explore the Aquarium and Rainforest Pyramids, along with exhibits and other attractions. You can easily spend several hours here.
For rides, games and that classic Galveston boardwalk experience — all extending right out over the Gulf! Even if rides aren't your thing, you can grab a walk-on pass and explore the pier.
🌊 GET OUTSIDE
Galveston Island State Park
Head to the quieter side of the island for beaches, nature trails, kayaking and paddling. A great option when you want a little more space and a slower pace.
Cruise the Seawall
Drive, bike or walk along the Seawall and stop wherever looks fun. Sometimes exploring without a plan is the best plan!
🌅 SLOW DOWN
Catch a Galveston Sunset
Simple, free and very vacation. Grab a drink, find a good spot and enjoy one of our favorite parts of island life.
East End Lagoon Nature Preserve
For something quieter, explore the trails, watch the birds and enjoy a completely different side of Galveston away from the busier attractions.
🛺 RENT A GOLF CART
One of the most fun ways to get around the West End! Rent a golf cart from Rick’s Beach Rentals and have it delivered right to your vacation rental. They offer several cart sizes, so there’s an option for groups big and small.
